Myra here.

We truly are among like-minded individuals in the book blogging community. Just a day after I posted about our hosting the Check Off your Reading List Challenge for 2014 (do sign up here if you haven’t already), our dear blogging friend, Carrie Gelson of There is a Book for That also shared her #mustreadin2014. And fellow book-kindreds Linda Baie of Teacher Dance and Maria Selke of Maria’s Melenage have also put together a widget and the hashtag and organized a good number of individuals to join in the fun for the New Year! What a great way to start 2014.

And of course we are in! What better way to build a community of readers than to cheer each other on in our reading challenges as we gradually check off our reading lists. GatheringBooks is going for our usual 365 book challenge across all three of us (Fats, Iphigene, and myself). Check out our Annual Reading Calendar from 2011, 2012, and 2013. For 2013, we have exceeded our 365 reading goal and read 489 books in all! I have personally read 331 books! Not bad.

Myra is a Teacher Educator and a registered clinical psychologist based in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates. Prior to moving to the Middle East, she lived for eleven years in Singapore serving as a teacher educator. She has edited five books on rediscovering children’s literature in Asia (with a focus on the Philippines, Malaysia, India, China, Japan) as part of the proceedings for the Asian Festival of Children’s Content where she served as the Chair of the Programme Committee for the Asian Children’s Writers and Illustrators Conference from 2011 until 2019. While she is an academic by day, she is a closet poet and a book hunter at heart. When she is not reading or writing about books or planning her next reads, she is hoping desperately to smash that shuttlecock to smithereens because Badminton Is Life (still looking for badminton courts here at UAE - suggestions are most welcome).

  1. I originally pledged at Level 2, but you know what? I believe things happen for a reason, so I must be meant to read 25+ from my Shelfari list. Keep me at Rabid Bibliophile 🙂

  2. Myra, you’re wonderful to include our other challenge here too. I’ll be ready on Monday to post 2 or 3 already read! This is exciting, & look how many will be sharing! Thank you! Have you tweeted this to Carrie and Maria? Great to see all the names!
