I have a special affinity for reading projects and literary initiatives like this one. Our very own first year Blogiversary last year was devoted to donating 1000 books to disadvantaged public schools in the Philippines. We called it the 1:4:1000 Book Project (1 Year Anniversary, 4 Schools, 1000 Books).
When Zoe from Playing by the Book and Amy Broadmoore of Delightful Children’s Books shared that they are promoting International Book Giving Day on the 14th of February (see another post here) and encouraging more people to participate, I knew that we’d do our little part to join in this spirit of book-giving.
Here are three simple ways that you can share in this initiative:
- Give a book to a friend or relative;
- Wrap up a box of children’s books that your kids have outgrown and get them in the hands of children who could really use a book or two; or
- Leave a good book in a waiting room or lobby.
Fairly simple, right? How about you? It’s kind of cool to celebrate Valentine’s day with book-giving, rather than the traditional flowers and chocolates, don’t you think? Well, ok, adding one or two coffee chocolate bars won’t hurt either. 🙂
