Suspense, Mystery, and Crime: A Whodunit Reading Challenge January-June 2011

We are very excited to host our very own Reading Challenge for the first half of the year. And to start 2011, we embrace books that are shrouded in secrecy, suspense, and mystery (and crime too) – a Whodunit Reading Challenge for 2011. Here are our Guidelines for the very first Challenge that we are hosting in the Blogosphere:

1. The Reading Challenge would run from this month until June 30, 2011. We are celebrating books that have a theme of spine-tingling suspense, mystery, and crime – essentially a whodunit feel to it.
2. We only have 4 levels of participation: Level 1 (1-2 books) – Novice Profiler; Level 2 (3-5 books) – Crime Detective; Level 3 (6-8 Books) Mythic Crime Buster; Level 4 (over 9 books) Criminal Genius/Mastermind
3. Book Recommendations are: The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, the classic Sherlock Holmes, anything from the Artemis Fowl series (criminal genius teenage mastermind), Anthony Horowitz’ Alex Rider Series or The Power of Five, I think you get the drift. It does not have to be YA lit or children’s books. It could be a graphic novel or in the fiction for grown-up category. Biographies/documentaries with this kind of feel to it are likewise welcome.
4. If you are in doubt whether your book fits into this category – so long as you can justify it in your review, that’s more than fine with us. And yes, you can link this to (or have it overlap with) other reading challenges that you are participating in. We’d probably be doing the same thing ourselves. =)
5. You would have to write your reviews of what you have read for the challenge. Leave a link to your review here (Whodunit Database). While we appreciate your linking reviews for anything written in 2010 or even way before that, they would not be eligible for prizes.
6. No, you do not need a blog to participate. Goodreads, Shelfari members are welcome to join – a weblink that leads us to your post should be enough.
7. We shall do a consolidated blogpost every two months where we also acknowledge your participation, alongside the links to your reviews. We shall also be awarding two book prizes every two months.
8. We shall read your reviews and we (Fats, Mary, and myself, plus our book prize sponsors) would try to arrive at a consensus as to which would be our two top favorite reviews and the book prizes get sent to you by postal mail.
9. How do you sign up? Leave a comment in this announcement post if you wish to join in our challenge and the url of your post (not your website) which announces your intention to join in this Reading Challenge – and the level you are aiming for. Feel free to grab these cutesie buttons that Mary has created for our challenge and post it in your blog.
