Photo Journal/ Travel Theme: Spooky in Prague

Ailsa’s Travel Theme this week is perfect for Halloween: Spooky! Here are a few pictures I have taken while I was in Prague. My good friend (travel buddy and research collaborator) and I went on a day tour and the lunch which came with the package was in this lovely Medieval Restaurant that provided the perfect spooky vibe which I thought is just about right for this week’s theme.

Spooky in Prague

“The wind outside nested in each tree, prowled the sidewalks in invisible treads like unseen cats.
Tom Skelton shivered. Anyone could see that the wind was a special wind this night, and the darkness took on a special feel because it was All Hallows’ Eve. Everything seemed cut from soft black velvet or gold or orange velvet. Smoke panted up out of a thousand chimneys like the plumes of funeral parades. From kitchen windows drifted two pumpkin smells: gourds being cut, pies being baked.”
― Ray BradburyThe Halloween Tree

Skulls lined the walls of this medieval restaurant

“Be hole, be dust, be dream, be wind

Be night, be dark, be wish, be mind,

Now slip, now slide, now move unseen,

Above, beneath, betwixt, between.”
― Neil GaimanThe Graveyard Book

“The muses are ghosts, and sometimes they come uninvited.”
― Stephen KingBag of Bones

“It is good for a man to invite his ghosts into his warm interior, out of the wild night, into the firelight, out of the howling dark.”
― A.S. ByattThe Biographer’s Tale: A Novel

“Ghosts could walk freely tonight, without fear of the disbelief of men; for this night was haunted, and it would be an insensitive man who did not know it.”
― John SteinbeckTortilla Flat

“Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore,
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
Tis some visitor,” I muttered, “tapping at my chamber door —
Only this, and nothing more.” - Edgar Allan Poe

With my good friend, travel buddy, research collaborator, linguist extraordinaire, Professor Tuting Hernandez.

“Invitation to Dance-
It’s a Dance. And sometimes they turn the lights off in this ballroom.
But we’ll dance anyway, you and I. Even in the Dark. Especially in the Dark.
May I have the pleasure?”
― Stephen King

“Here is a list of terrible things,
The jaws of sharks, a vultures wings
The rabid bite of the dogs of war,
The voice of one who went before,
But most of all the mirror’s gaze,
Which counts us out our numbered days.”
― Clive BarkerDays of Magic, Nights of War
