Last Friday, our Committee (the Staff Welfare and Recreation Fund Committee) at the National Institute of Education (NIE) organized a Family Day for children of professors, lecturers, and staff within our institution.
It is so great to see NIE come alive with the voices of singing children in the halls – filled with laughter and cheer.
We have also organized several activities for them with the help of our colleagues, several teacher-trainees, and kind-hearted individuals who volunteered to also provide assistance with the children. Here are a few photos that Salina has taken during the event itself.
Arts Activity with the 4-6 year olds
We provided the kids with a few materials to create a collage artwork that shows their appreciation for Mother Nature. I started off by asking these lovely kids what comes to their mind when they think about nature – and with a bit of prompting they responded with answers such as: flowers, beach, animals, forest, people – and off they went to create lovely artworks based on those ideas. The older kids had a mathematics activity in a different venue – you may wish to click here to be taken to our official website with even more photographs.
After the children are done with their artwork, they had plenty of time for a little bit of show and tell, and they were happy to share their artwork with everyone else.

Then I also had a few minutes to do a storytelling session with them as I brought John Perry and Mark Fearing’s The Book that Eats People. The kids were positively riveted, others were a bit frightened, making sure that they avoid the book at all costs – all rollickin’ good fun!
The kids were also in for a Milo treat as we were given refillable cups (3000 in all) of Milo goodness!
Meet the Creators of The Diary of Amos Lee: Adeline Foo and Stephanie Wong
We were also very fortunate to have good friends Adeline Foo (the Author of the national bestseller The Diary of Amos Lee) and Illustrator Stephanie Wong, with us to share with the kids their creative process.
Guest of Honor: Professor Lee Sing Kong
Our guest of honor is our beloved Professor Lee Sing Kong, our indefatigable visionary, and NIE Director. He found the time to hand out lovely prizes and to ask the kids what their dreams are.

Congratulations, everyone, for a glorious and fun-filled event!
I am truly blessed to be part of a committee that is organizing such great events. It is always fun to work alongside such creative, passionate, efficient, and hardworking team-members. We are also deeply thankful to Milo for the overflowing cups of choco goodness, Pansing Books for providing 100 books for giveaways and Prologue Bookstore for donating so many prizes: plush teddy bears, Sanrio minifans, and Gen Rex Stationery Sets. May you be blessed a hundredfold for making so many children happy.

Thanks for posting, Dr. Myra! So happy with the overwhelming positive feedback from the parents!!
Joy is spilling out of this post — thanks for sharing about this wonderful event. Love all those kids’ faces
