Photo Journal / Photo Challenge: C is for Cirque de Soleil

It’s that time of the week once more as we join Frizztext’s A-Z Photo Challenge. Letter this week is C, and the theme that I have chosen is the amazing show Cirque de Soleil. My husband and I don’t really dig the casino/gambling scene and since we stayed in Las Vegas for a little over two weeks, we figured that we might as well amuse ourselves by watching as many shows as we can. Cirque de Soleil is a natural choice.

First, we watched Beatles Love at The Mirage and we were literally in awe of the entire performance. We are regular theater and concert goers – but it seems like nothing has prepared us for something of this scale – they have totally redefined the meaning of performance. There is nothing quite like it! Our time in Broadway paled in comparison!

Since we couldn’t get enough, we had to watch their signature show O at the Bellagio. Strange, surreal, and downright spectacular. The academic in me that specializes in talent and expertise wonders how much training and deliberate practice the performers must have gone through to achieve this level of exceptionality that continually makes international audience from all over the world gasp and gaze at their astounding performance. Unparalleled is what it is. A single slip or a flawed sleight of hand might cost them their lives – brilliance of a different magnitude altogether. Unfortunately, cameras are not allowed inside the theater so here are a few photographs taken around the hotel area.

The Beatles “Love” Cirque de Soleil

There’s nothing you can do that can’t be done.

Nothing you can sing that can’t be sung.

Nothing you can say but you can learn how to play the game. It’s easy.

There’s nothing you can make that can’t be made.

No one you can save that can’t be saved.

Nothing you can do but you can learn how to be you in time – It’s easy.

All you need is Love. – Beatles

There’s nothing you can know that isn’t known.

Nothing you can see that isn’t shown.

Nowhere you can be that isn’t where you’re meant to be. It’s easy.

All you need is love, all you need is love

I once had a girl, or should I say, she once had me

She showed me her room, isn’t it good, norwegian wood?
She asked me to stay and she told me to sit anywhere

So I looked around and I noticed there wasn’t a chair
I sat on the rug, biding my time, drinking her wine

We talked until two and then she said, “It’s time for bed”
She told me she worked in the morning and started to laugh

I told her I didn’t and crawled off to sleep in the bath
And when I awoke I was alone, this bird had flown

So I lit a fire, isn’t it good, norwegian wood?

Picture yourself in a boat on a river

With tangerine trees and marmalade skies

Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly

A girl with kaleidoscope eyes
Cellophane flowers of yellow and green

Towering over your head

Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes

And she’s gone
Lucy in the sky with diamonds

O at the Bellagio

“Damn everything but the circus!. . .The average ‘painter’ ‘sculptor’ ‘poet’ ‘composer’ ‘playwright’ is a person who cannot leap through a hoop from the back of a galloping horse, make people laugh with a clown’s mouth, orchestrate twenty lions.”

- E.E. Cummings

At The Bellagio’s colorful lobby with my ten year old daughter.

“Something about the circus stirs their souls, and they ache for it when it is absent.”

― Erin Morgenstern

“So the carnival steams by, shakes ANY tree: it rains jackasses.”

―Ray Bradbury, Something Wicked This Way Comes

How about you, dear friends? What is your C photo this week?
