If there’s one thing that keeps us pumped up here at Gathering Books, it’s In My Mailbox, a weekly meme hosted by The Story Siren. Today, I bring you my loot from Book Off along with titles I borrowed from the library for our bimonthly theme, Circus, Carnivale and Paranormal Twists.

- Been wanting to read this book. Almost bought it at its original price! Thank you, Book Off. =)
6. Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of N.I.M.H. by Robert C. O’Brien (which Myra reviewed here)
7. Charles Dickens and Friends by Marcia Williams
- A cute comic strip version of 6 Dickens classics including Oliver Twist, David Copperfield, and A Christmas Carol
8. Sawdust and Spangles: The Amazing Life of W.C. Coup by Ralph Covert and G. Riley Mills, Illustrated by Giselle Potter
- Love, love, love this when I saw it at Book Off. Perfect for Nonfiction Monday, for the PB Reading Challenge, and our bimonthly theme.
9. The It-Doesn’t-Matter Suit by Sylvia Plath
- Yup, it’s a picture book from one of the world’s notable writers. A rare find, indeed!
10. Faith of the Fallen by Terry Goodkind (Mikey’s book)
The following are books borrowed from the library for our bimonthly theme (crossing my fingers that I’ll be able to finish the thick books on time):
1. I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore
- Our bimonthly theme is a good excuse to read books outside our comfort zone.
2. The Reformed Vampire Support Group by Catherine Jinks
- Interesting title, plus the cover looks like the characters came out of a comic book.
3. The Entertainer and the Dybbuk by Sid Fleischman
- Interesting take on the Nazis.
4. The Ghost of Thomas Kempe by Penelope Lovely
- Also perfect for Award-Winning Books Challenge.
5. Oh No, Not Ghosts! by Richard Michelson
6. The Carnival of the Animals by Jack Prelutsky
7. Olivia Saves the Circus by Ian Falconer
8. Ghost in the House by Daniel Cohen
9. When the Circus Came to Town by Polly Horvath
- Polly Horvath is loooove!
10. Women of Illusion: A Circus Family’s Story by Donnalee Frega
11. Modoc by Ralph Helfer
12. The Secret Circus by Johanna Wright (which I recently reviewed)
13. Tom Thumb: The Remarkable True Story of a Man in Miniature by George Sullivan
14. Dad Runs Away With the Circus by Etgar Keret
- Perfect for Reading the World, PoC, and PB reading challenges. Yay!!
Hey baby girl! Nice collection you have here and great titles from your library – I’m glad you’re making better use of your San Diego library. The title by Sid Fleischman caught me – I also just recently borrowed his Houdini book – as I always say, great intentions should at least count for something, right????
Yeah, I’m glad too. Of course that doesn’t stop me from buying books. Hehehe. I don’t remember reading anything by Sid Fleischman, but the story of The Entertainer and the Dybbuk is good so far. A double feature of Sid Fleischman would be good for our bimonthly theme. Separate reviews, of course, but 2 Fleischman books nevertheless.

The Ghost of Thomas Kempe was published many years ago. Hence, the old-fashioned feel of the cover. I flipped through the pages and it should be a ver interesting read.
Oh, I loooove Garth Nix!! I’ve been a fan since I read his Abhorsen trilogy which I love, love, love! Have you read them – Sabriel, Lirael, and Abhorsen? Let me know your thoughts. I also have the first 3 books of his Seventh Tower series. =)
My students have always loved Garth Nix, and I use the Cisneros book often for writing lessons. Thanks for telling about the possible award winning books, too. What a good bunch of books you shared!
Hi Linda! Thank you for dropping by. Yes, Garth Nix is fabulous. As for Cisneros, it should be an interesting read because this is my first encounter with her. I was pleased myself at the number of award-winning books I acquired this month. We shall see how things go.
Wow, that’s quite the haul. I actually really liked “I am Number Four” and its sequel. It was a fun action, sci fi series.

Hello Michelle! Glad to hear from someone who has read the book! I meant to borrow The Power of Six but I’m afraid I won’t have enough time for all the other books above. The series kind of reminds me of Tim Burton’s 9, only because of the way the characters were referred to as numbers.

I have seen I Am Number Four the movie, but I have yet to read the book but I hear great things from it! I should really get on that…Great Haul this week! Looks like you will be busy reading.
