Before November 7 ends, I will be sharing photos of the books that I have borrowed from the community library and my own institution’s library for NYRB Reading Week – an event co-hosted by Honey from Coffeespoons and Mrs B from The Literary Stew.
While I clearly doubt that I would be able to read and review all for this week (what an impossible feat – I have papers to mark, classes to prepare for, and a conference to attend in Brisbane in two weeks’ time! and academic papers to write/refine/modify submit for peer review) – regardless, it would still be great to document the process of participating in this lovely bookblogging event. This photo-event has likewise been inspired by another book blogger, Thomas at My Porch’s photos of his own collection of NYRB books. Although I must say that we, at GatheringBooks, kind of do this (blog and post book photos) on a regular basis – especially when we share our recent book purchases from book sales and such (see mine here, Mary’s blog post here and Fats’ recent book buying spree here).
Since the official launch of GatheringBooks, one of our greatest joys is connecting with kindreds who have such evident passion for the written word. Truly a gift.
Initially, I just thought about reviewing three books (see my earlier blog post here) but when I discovered that our community library has LOADS of hardbound, red-edged, NYRB Children’s books – I just went wild borrowing as much as I can – hence I now have eight books waiting to be devoured for the week (I’d probably end up writing about only around three or four more in addition to Frank Tashlin’s The Bear that Wasn’t which I posted today).
As an end note, I would like to share this picture that my soul sister from San Francisco has taken from Green Apple, my favorite thrift bookstore in SFO. It highlights with such great panache how I feel about children’s books – and why I believe this should be posted here in GatheringBooks. Thanks Cha for taking this picture! And yes we shall spend an ENTIRE day in Green Apple when I come visit next month. =)
